About SCAPTA

The South Carolina Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (SCAPTA) is the only professional organization representing physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in South Carolina.

Vision Statement
The South Carolina Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association is the recognized leader of the physical therapy profession in South Carolina promoting and representing the interests of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and physical therapy students as they serve the health care needs of their communities.

Mission Statement
The mission of the SCAPTA is to be the component membership organization of the APTA that represents and promotes the profession of physical therapy and furthers the profession's role in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of movement dysfunctions in order to enhance the physical health and functional abilities of the public.

To meet the needs and interests of the members and to promote physical therapy as a vital professional career, we will:

  • Promote physical therapy care and services through the establishment and promotion of ethical principles and quality standards for practice education and research;
  • Have significant influence on policy in the public and private sectors
  • Enable physical therapy care and service through the establishment and promotion of ethical principles and quality standards for practice education and research;
  • Develop and improve the art and science of physical therapy including practice, education, and research;
  • Facilitate a common understanding and appreciation for the diversity of our profession, our professionals, and the community we serve; and
  • Maintain a stable and diverse financial base from which to fund the programs, services, and operations that support this mission.  

Goals

  • Increase public awareness of the physical therapy profession;
  • Be recognized as the representative body of physical therapy by legislators, media, and third party payers;
  • Support health care related legislation and policies;
  • Serve as an accessible source of information, help, and support for SCAPTA members.
